Andrew Sullivan: SUV owners support terror
Andrew Sullivan, who I quit reading regularly more than a year ago, posted a hysterical and uninformed rant against SUV owners. They sponsor terror, don’t you know. At the end of the article, he suggests a bumper sticker for non-SUV owners which reads:
“My car doesn’t subsidize Saudi terror”
I have one for SUV owners (I’m not one, BTW):
“My car doesn’t subsidize Saudi terror -
My eco-fascist neighbor does.”
The reasoning is straightforward and has the saving grace of being at least partially true. Eco-fascists oppose building new refineries, they oppose mining coal, they oppose drilling for oil, they oppose nuclear power, and they even oppose windmills when actually confronted by the environmental carnage wreaked by wind farms. Once the eco-fascists finally realize that what they consider to be dangerous carcinogens are used to make photovoltaics, they’ll end up opposing those too. These zealots have a number of regulatory bureaucracies that will defer to them for the simple reason that bureaucrats live to regulate. The rest of us - including Mr. Sullivan - have to pay the price.
