July 4th is Hoosier Open Carry Day
Do you carry a gun for self-defense? Do you live in Indiana? Do you want to show your support for the inalienable right of self-defense? If your answer to all of these questions is "yes", then join us in making July 4th, Independence Day 2001, Hoosier Open Carry Day.
I've been carrying openly in Bloomington for nearly 6 months. My reasons for doing this and the reactions I've encountered are documented in the articles posted on this web site. Carrying openly is a simple way to show your support for the right of self-defense while simultaneously attacking the prejudice against gunowners that pervades the general society.
Between 8% and 9% of voting age Hoosiers hold Personal Protection licenses. This is our chance to show our friends and neighbors that we are normal people; just average citizens with homes and families who are indistinguishable from everyone else except that we have chosen to exercise our right of self-defense. This is our chance to "shoot down" the stereotype of gunowners as either crazed lunatics or irresponsible ignoramuses.
Strike a blow for freedom and carry openly and proudly on July 4th!
